There is always something exciting about the new school year – meeting up with old friends, getting to know new ones, settling in to new classes and feeling you can make a new start, no matter how difficult last year might have been. It’s full of promise and potential. Hope you all feel like that too.

The library hasn’t seen much change over the holidays for once, so for us it’s a case of coming back to familiar surroundings and that is pleasant too. Maybe you want to just settle back into a comfortable chair here and revisit some of your old friends in books, and make new ones in some of our fantastic novels. That’s OK as well. We hope you all feel at home here, and enjoy the great space we have here.

There are lots of new books coming out, but that’s another post…!

We have some great readers here! One of our boys discovered a new series of fantasy books at our local Christian bookshop and was so impressed that he passed on the suggestion to us in the library. As a result we now have two new series on our shelves. So have a look for Bryan Davis in the secondary bookshelves and discover for yourselves ‘Raising Dragons in our Midst’ and ‘Oracles of Fire’ – two related series and with one extra book which is a prequel to both. (Don’t worry about the order to read them – we’ll put up a list of the recommended order)

The first week of Term 3 was cold, wet and miserable which made the library a very busy place at lunchtimes. One week later and we could imagine summer had arrived with blue skies and warm weather to tempt us all outdoors. Now we are enjoying our panoramic windows on three sides of the library and admiring the wattle tree behind us beginning to blossom.

Welcome back everyone to a new term. Summer is well and truly over, and autumn is with us. Now it’s time to enjoy the changing colour of the trees, and appreciate the cooler weather. Having lived for years in the tropics, I really do appreciate the changing seasons each with special features to enjoy.

The library is changing a bit too. I expect some students will have already noticed that our fiction collection has been divided into Primary and Secondary areas, although some books will appear in both. Year 7 and up are welcome to borrow from both areas, but Primaries can only borrow from their area unless they have permission to browse the secondary section. Hopefully this will make it easier for everyone to find just what you are looking for!
